Secukinumab in the treatment of severe plaque psoriasis during pregnancy: A case report and literature review
A 27-year-old female patient presented with recurrent scaly erythema on the trunk and limbs accompanied by pruritus for over five years, leading to a diagnosis of severe plaque psoriasis. In 2019, the patient experienced an unplanned pregnancy while receiving secukinumab injections and consequently discontinued the treatment. The patient delivered a healthy male infant weighing 3.4 kg at full term (40 weeks of gestation),the patient did not experience gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, elective and emergency cesarean sections, or preterm birth.Follow-up in 2023 indicated that the child exhibited normal growth and development, with all physical parameters within the normal range. In this case, over a 3-year follow-up period, both the pregnant patient and the fetus showed no significant adverse reactions, providing additional safety evidence for the use of secukinumab during pregnancy in patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, but more clinical cases and drug studies are needed to evaluate its safety during pregnancy.
