Abstract 2601 Functional Crosstalk Between Ire1 and MAPK Slt2 Pathways via Transcription Factor Rlm1 in Yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Almost one-third of cellular proteins fold and mature inside the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). If proteins fail to fold correctly or mis-fold, they accumulate in the ER, leading to a condition known as ER stress. This stress disrupts cellular protein homeostasis, or proteostasis. To restore ER proteostasis, cells evoke an network of adaptive signalling pathways, collectively referred to as the unfolded protein response (UPR). In the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the UPR is mediated by the ER-resident protein kinase/RNase Ire1 and a cytosolic mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) Slt2.
