Abstract 2118 STRUCTURAL CHARACTERIZATION OF TWO KEY BIOSYNTHETIC ENZYMES FROM L. PNEUMOPHILA SEROGROUP 1 IN THEIR LIGAND BOUND FORMS
Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 is the primary causative agent for Legionnaires' disease, a rare but severe respiratory infection. While the fatality rate of Legionnaires' disease is low in the general population, it is more pronounced in vulnerable communities such as the immunocompromised. Thus, development of new antimicrobials is of interest for use when traditional antibiotics may not be applicable. Two key enzymatic targets of interest are peptide deformylase (PDF) and deoxyuridine triphosphatase (dUTPase), both of which play essential roles in survival and DNA metabolism in L.
