Abstract 2762 The Novel Role of Lipocalin-2 in Cross-Talk Between Muscle and Adipose Tissue
Lipocalin-2 has been described as an adipokine secreted by adipose tissue. Contradictory data indicate that Lipocalin-2 has both pro- and anti-inflammatory actions (1) (2). Lipocalin-2 protein is expressed in many tissues, however Lipocalin-2 expression has not been previously studied in skeletal muscle/myotubes (1). Our preliminary results in human subjects indicated that mRNA expression of Lipocalin-2 is acutely increased after exercise and suggested that Lipocalin-2 may be an exercise-induced myokine.
