Abstract 2405 Building functional chimeras for biosensing and synthetic biology using CRISPR
Incorporating the function of one protein into another polypeptide chain is a powerful approach for creating new genetically encoded biosensors, biotechnological tools, and discovery platforms. One example would be installing a luciferase reporter or peptide tag into a loop or other protein structural element. A significant challenge of this approach is finding sites that tolerate such chimeric insertions but retain the original function of a host protein. This process can be time and resource-intensive.
