Unveiling the Secrets of Goat Hair: Structural and Qualitative Insights for Iranian Nomadic Black Tent

The black tents of Iranian nomads have long been admired for their adaptability across climates. At the heart of these tents is goat hair, a fiber prized for its strength, elasticity, and good thermal conductivity, which would make it suitable for nomads home. In this paper an investigation of structural, mechanical and thermal characteristics of goat hair. The morphology of goat hair fiber was also investigated through SEM analysis, which exposed the advanced composition of its microstructure. DMA further supported the highly mechanical stabilized material and the thermal transitions of the fibers were provided by a DSC. Moreover, TGA result indicates goat hair is thermally non degradable up to certain temperature as the weight loss observed in thermogram was considerably low. Flexibility tests extended the tensile testing beyond the basic conclusion that the fabric material is strong for use in the case and appropriate to the nomadic lifestyle. The study also restates the material from a more generalized standpoint, by elaborating the physico-chemical and mechanical tendencies, and its uses in regulating temperature inside the tents while maintaining a climate in the interior of the tents. As outlined in this research, this hair can be used for bio-composites, thermal and acoustic insulation, construction of lightweight structures and reinforcements for polymers.
