Abstract 2860 Optimizing Total Exosomal RNA Extraction from Baboon Plasma to Assess its Biomarker Value
A biomarker is a biological marker that can be objectively measured and evaluated to reflect a normal or abnormal biological process. Exosomes are some of the smallest membrane-bound extracellular vesicles, typically ranging from 30-100 nanometers in size, and are produced by most eukaryotic cells. Exosomes circulate in bodily fluids and contain a variety of cargo, unique to the cell that released them. This cargo includes nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, and cellular metabolites. Due to the nature of their cargo, exosomes could serve as an understudied reservoir of biomarkers for disease.
