Abstract 2740 Metabolism and Signaling Control of Cellular Decisions
We have become convinced that metabolism is not a passive enabler of cell biology, but instead plays a decisive role in determining cell fate and behavior. Direct interactions between proteins and small molecule metabolites mediate a majority of the enzymatic, regulatory, and signaling events that occur in human cells and tissues. Despite their obvious importance, there is a relative absence of methodologies available for high-throughput and systematic protein-metabolite interactomics. One of our current areas of focus is to develop methodologies to enable us to determine the mechanisms whereby metabolism and metabolites affect behaviors via direct modulation of proteins involved in signaling, transcription and other regulatory mechanisms.
