Perspectivas acerca de mulheres, raça e crime nos processos de Joana e Juliana em Pelotas no século XIX
This work establishes a comparison between two criminal cases involving women as victims. These women repeatedly rejected marriage proposals from their suitors, who, unable to accept these refusals, resorted to violence. In light of this, the aim of this work is to present these two cases and analyze how this type of behavior was perceived within the social context of the time in which they occurred. To this end, the theories utilized include gender studies (Soihet and Pedro, 2007) and the history of crime (Bretas, 1991), while the methodology drew on the studies of Cellard (2007) as well as microhistory (Levi, 2016). The analysis highlighted the importance of criminal processes as a historical research source, in addition to evidencing the inequalities present between different genders and races.
