Abstract 2769 The Role of the Epigenetic TET Enzymes in Astrocytes after Hypoxia and Ischemia
Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability within the United States with limited therapies. Epigenetic mechanisms have been shown to play a major role in the progression of stroke pathophysiology. Our laboratory has previously shown that epigenetic enzymes known as ten eleven translocases (TETs) are associated with preventing brain injury after stroke. However, the role of TETs in astrocytes of the post-stroke brain is not well understood. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of the TET enzymes in astrocytes after stroke injury.
