Abstract 2498 Environmental toxins 4-Nonylphenol and Bisphenol-A induce Alzheimer's disease-like pathology in Human Neuroblastoma cells
Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a leading cause of dementia in the U.S. and a major public health concern. Aging is the most consistent risk factor in developing AD. Recent evidence suggests that environmental factors such as Bisphenol A (BPA) and 4-Nonylphenol (4-NP) could play a significant role in this process. BPA and 4-NP are endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDC) and environmental pollutants recently implicated as risk factors for AD and AD-related dementia. BPA is used to manufacture polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins used in baby bottles, food packaging, water bottles, and medical devices.4-Nonylphenol (NP) makes nonylphenol ethoxylates, nonionic surfactants applied as emulsifying or stabilizing agents in industrial, agricultural, and domestic consumer products.
