Abstract 2750 polyA track associated frameshifting in control of environmental stress survival and development
Organisms change expression of genes or gene isoforms in response to developmental or environmental cues. Ribosomal frameshifting, in addition to alternative splicing or post-translational modification, is a strategy used by many organisms and viruses to expand the coding capacity of their genes. In particular, viruses employ frameshifting frequently to produce different protein isoforms with distinct cellular functions. PolyA tracks, adenosine-rich nucleotide sequences in the coding region of genes, have been shown to induce frameshifting during mRNA translation.
