Abstract 1692 Biochemical Investigation of the Molecular Targets of Anthranilates in Plants
Naturally-derived small molecules like salicylic acid (SA) and anthranilates profoundly influence biological systems, impacting processes spanning plant immunity, human health, and disease. SA, the precursor to acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), is well known for its interactions with glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), a glycolytic enzyme, and cyclooxygenases (COX-1/2), which regulate inflammatory pathways. GAPDH has emerged as a multifunctional protein involved in diverse cellular processes, including stress responses, apoptosis, and nuclear signaling in both plants and animals.
