Abstract 1544 A mutational analysis of the Ebola virus and Marburg virus matrix protein VP40 to assess effects on assembly and budding of these viruses
MARV is a zoonotic virus first identified in a hemorrhagic fever outbreak in humans and non-human primates in Marburg, Germany, in 1967. Since then, there have been several outbreaks worldwide, the most recent one being in the Republic of Rwanda in September 2024. EBOV was discovered in 1976 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and is found primarily in sub-Saharan Africa. Diseases caused by both viruses are highly fatal. Human-to-human transmission can occur through direct contact with bodily fluids.
