Design of Virtual and Physical Automotive Concepts for Virtual Assembly Plant

In times of the COVID pandemic, universities found themselves in the need to schedule their courses online and this caused new digital learning alternatives to be explored. In our case, virtual laboratories and mixed reality lessons were developed to engage students and ensure learning objectives. One of the results of this effort was the development of a virtual simulator of an ERP system for a car assembly company. This assembler was initially supported by the Meccano model construction system, but based on surveys of teachers and students, it was decided to have its own automotive models. The new automotive models were developed with the support of AI and digital and 3D printed models were obtained. These digital twins have enriched the teaching-learning experience, by having the opportunity to replicate the (simplified) assembly line of a car, physically and virtually.
