Remote Laboratory: Evaluation as a Pedagogic and Didactic Resource

This paper examines the impact of employing a remote laboratory (RL) to conduct hybrid learning activities in the subjects of electronics and automatic control. The experiment was conducted at the school of engineering and sciences, mechatronics department, Tecnologico de Monterrey, Puebla, Mexico. The RL was developed by the authors, using basic electronic elements and a computer as a server. Communication protocols and user interfaces were developed using software free licenses. The impact of the developed RL laboratory in the hybrid learning experience of senior mechatronics and chemical engineering students was measured by two instruments. The first instrument measures how transferable are the skills developed in the remote setting to an in-person setting. The second instrument measures the student's receptiveness to the execution of the hybrid learning activities (remote/hands-on, hands-on/remote).
