Enhancing Student Success: Exploring the Impact of Novel Mentoring Strategies on Life Purpose Reflection and Goal Setting

This research proposes three innovative didactic exercises whose general objective is to provide guidance to any student in the efforts of establishing specific, achievable, and realistic goals in an intuitive and reflective manner. Additionally, these exercises also aim to guide the student regarding the formulation and structuring of their life purpose during their university studies in Tecnologico de Monterrey (campus Monterrey). Six student mentors participated in the implementation of these didactic exercises in one-on-one sessions and group sessions. The data was collected through an online survey based on quantitative and qualitative questionnaires. We received seventy-three responses from students in the quantitative questions and fifty responses in the qualitative question. Analyzing the results of this study affirmed that the strategies proposed contribute to enhancing current methodologies used in Mentoring Department, like the Ikigai and interview formats, amongst others, thus fostering life purpose reflection and work and goal setting for student success. The objective of these exercises is aligned with the 2030 vision of Tecnologico de Monterrey, which focuses on leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurship for the human flourishing of students, professors, and collaborators.
