Quantitative Assessment of Public Commercial Space on Cruise Ships Based on Spatial Syntax
In order to improve the spatial configuration of the commercial deck level of the cruise ship and to augment the propensity of tourists's consumption and experiences, an examination of the existing public commercial space of the cruise ship is undertaken. The spatial connectivity, visual integration and axial integration of the public commercial decks on the 6th and 7th floors of the MSC Bellissima are quantitatively analyzed using the theory of spatial syntax in architecture and the Depthmap. The efficiency and value of the commercial space are evaluated based on the connection value, integration and comprehensibility. Based on the aforementioned calculations, recommendations are made regarding optimisation of the plan layout, spatial flow and spatial vision, with the aim of proposing innovative ideas and methods for the spatial arrangement of public commercial spaces on cruise ships.
