Impact of Performance Evaluation on Mechatronics Engineering Students

This study, as part of the quality validation process for Mechatronics engineering graduates at Tecnológico de Monterrey, assessed student skills through an innovative exercise called the Evaluation Center, which focused on practical performance rather than theoretical knowledge. This exercise involved educators and industry leaders with extensive industrial experience, evaluating student performance in semistructured scenarios designed to replicate real work environments. Both quantitative and qualitative methodologies were used to assess the performance of each future graduate. Evaluators provided detailed feedback on students' performance as they interacted with team members, encouraging them to identify their strengths and areas for improvement. Additionally, industry partners, with a deep understanding of current engineering competencies, collaborated in redefining the graduate profile, specifying the skills and knowledge needed to meet contemporary job market demands. This collaborative and performance-focused approach underscores the importance of aligning educational outcomes with industry expectations, driving innovation in engineering education.
