Breaking Barriers: Smartphone Sensors, Mobile Technology in Online Teaching of Differential Equations

This study presents a novel pedagogical approach that integrates smartphone sensors and mobile technology into the online teaching of differential equations, specifically targeting engineering students. By leveraging the capabilities of tools such as the Physics Toolbox Sensor Suite and MATLAB, this methodology enhances experiential learning and bridges the gap between theoretical concepts and practical applications. The experimental results demonstrate a statistically significant increase in student motivation and active engagement compared to traditional teaching methods, as evidenced by the higher academic performance of the experimental group. This approach not only facilitates a deeper understanding of differential equations by contextualizing them within real-world scenarios but also expands the accessibility of advanced mathematical education through mobile learning. By addressing both cognitive and practical aspects of learning, this methodology sets a new benchmark for online mathematics education, offering a scalable and effective solution for diverse educational environments. The findings suggest that this innovative integration of technology can be a transformative tool in enhancing student outcomes and reshaping the future of STEM education.
