A Systematic Review: Fansubbers and Audio-Visual Translation

The purpose of the research was to analyse the contributions of fansubbers to audio-visual translation as reported in different research works, determining which studies have relevance for the linguistic and technical fields. The research was documentary, using documentary analysis technique. The instrument used was the analysis sheet following the steps considered in the guide on the systematic review methodology of the University of Navarra (2024). Twenty-one research works were analysed, including theses and scientific articles, which reported that fansubbers complied with spatial, temporal and spelling conventions. The subtitles as elaborated were quick to read, legible, creative, and also promoted Chinese culture. It was concluded that 19.05% are in favour of fansubbers, 57.14% are in favour of professional translators, 19.05% are in favour of both and 4.8% showed no preferences; and 28.5% of the works showed their results related to the linguistic field, 4.8% to the technical field and 66.7% related to both fields.
