Visual Appeal Analysis of Non-Design Factors in Tractor Safety Signs: A Virtual Experiment Based on Serious Games

Safety signs on agricultural machinery are crucial for preventing risks. Safety signs consist of design factors and nondesign factors. Considering the complex environment faced by agricultural machinery, especially tractors, there is little research on the impact of non-design factors on the effectiveness of safety signs. The purpose of this study is to understand how non-design factors affect the visual appeal of safety signs by analyzing their location, surroundings, and user gender. We used serious games and eye-tracker to provide experimental scenes and data. 81 experienced agricultural tractor drivers participated in this simulation experiment. The results indicate that non-design factors are significantly associated with the visual appeal of agricultural machinery safety signs, which directly affects users' attention and recognition of safety signs. Therefore, when designing agricultural machinery safety signs, we should not only focus on design factors but also consider non-design factors to ensure that safety signs can play the maximum warning role in various environments and conditions. This study not only provides a new perspective and method for the design of agricultural machinery safety signs but also provides strong support for their practical applications.
