A comprehensive report on the case of pleomorphic adenoma of nasal septum combined with nasal polyps
Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is a common benign tumor of salivary glands. It is very rare in the nasal cavity. Comprehensive reports on cases of nasal PA are still lacking. A 31-year-old male patient attended our clinic with nasal congestion and occasional epistaxis. Endoscopic examination revealed a mass within the left nasal passage and polyps in the left middle meatus. Radiological investigations show local soft tissue accompanied by bone destruction in computed tomography examination, and T1 low signal and T2 high signal in magnetic resonance imaging. A pathological biopsy revealed PA of the septum and polyps of the middle meatus. Endoscopic endonasal excision was performed. No recurrence was observed for over 1 year of follow-up. Clinical manifestation, radiological investigations and intraoperative quick frozen section pathology are recommended in identifying the tumor's size and guiding the scope of surgical resection. To prevent recurrence, extensive local resection with clear histological margins and long-term follow-up with endoscopic examination is necessary.
