"Deberías agradecer": Colonialismo, educación y desindigenización en Yucatán. Una aproximación autoetnográfica
In this text, I analyze, autoethnographically, three moments of my formative process as a highly educated academic woman who self-identifies as Yucatecan Maya. I do so, aiming to dismantle the lies of colonialism embedded in the school as an institution. I review 1) the colonization processes experienced by my family, 2) the deindigenization processes I experienced within formal education, and 3) the search for autonomy of thought. I conclude that the school provided by the Mexican State has not failed, it has been successful in the deindigenization process.
