Chiral Plasmonic Structures: From Intrinsically Optical Properties to Nanophotonic Applications
Chiral plasmonic nanostructures exhibit unique optical properties and effects, which reveal distinct optical characteristics across different dimensions. Such performance cooperation with plasmonic and other functionalities results in unknown chiroptical materials that push the limits of the system’s ability. Therefore, chiral plasmonic materials have broad applications in sensing, catalysis, biomedicine, and other fields. The latest advances in geometric control and optical tuning of intrinsic chiral plasmonic materials have opened up unique opportunities for their widespread application in many emerging fields. Scientists have successfully developed various chiral plasmonic materials and explored novel functionalities. This review summarizes different types of chiral plasmonic materials and analyzes the chiral formation mechanisms, and the enantioselective sensing, chiral catalysis, and biomedicine emerging applications were summarized. We also discuss the potential challenges associated with preparation and applications while proposing strategies for overcoming existing issues along with future prospects for these materials across various functions.
