Abstract 1887 Purification and Characterization of a novel peroxidase from pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) skin
Polyfluorinated alkyl substance (PFAS) are toxic byproducts of various industrial processes and are increasingly being detected in the environment. Growing concern of the potential health risks associated with exposure to many of these types of compounds has prompted massive scientific efforts to develop inexpensive catalytic systems with the ability to detect and/or degrade these compounds. One route for the degradation of a subset of these compounds called polyfluorinated aromatics has been the use of a family of plant enzymes called peroxidases, which are abundant in nature and use H2O2 as an oxidant.
