Abstract 1601 Structure and Mechanism of a Bifunctional Terpene Cyclase-Phosphatase
Terpenes represent the largest and most diverse class of natural products, found across all forms of life and widely utilized in the pharmaceutical, agriculture, and fragrance industries. Their biosynthesis relies mainly on terpene cyclases, which catalyze the conversion of linear isoprenoid diphosphates into complex terpenes typically containing multiple rings and stereocenters. Rarely, terpene cyclases are bifunctional, catalyzing a second, completely distinct reaction in addition to a canonical cyclization reaction.
