Abstract 1617 Enzyme Purification of Methyl Mercaptan Oxidase from Thiobacillus thioparus
Thiobacillus thioparus is a Gram-negative chemoautotrophic bacterium that use a unique metabolic pathway to extract chemical energy from environmental sulfur deposits. Methyl mercaptan oxidase (MMase) is one part of this unusual sulfur metabolism pathway, catalyzing an oxidation-reduction reaction that forms aldehydes from primary thiols. Although the complete annotated genome of T. thioparus has been published, details about the genes involved in this unique metabolic pathway remain unknown. In this work, MMase was produced from T.
