Abstract 1418 Overexpression Methods for DesD to Investigate Binding Kinetics
Multidrug resistance in antibiotics pose a serious threat to the future of healthcare and the ability for providers to administer effective treatments (M. Gajdacs, F. Albericio 2019). With the looming threat of increasingly resistant bacteria, a new class of antibiotic is a viable solution. In Hoffman's Lab, we study DesD, an enzyme involved in the synthesis of iron chelating molecules, siderophores. Bacteria require siderophores to scavenge for iron from the host environment (Challis G. 2005). Stealth siderophores are increasingly associated with bacterial virulence which all have at least one NIS synthetase, like DesD, involved in the production of siderophores (Hoffmann K.M.
