Abstract 1572 Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help elucidate functional properties and potential regulatory mechanisms of Tomato LOXA activity
Lipoxygenases (LOXs) are enzymes that are widely conserved in many plant and animal species. These enzymes oxidize polyunsaturated fatty acids, forming hydroperoxides as products. The products of LOXs are vital precursors to inflammatory regulatory molecules in humans, and molecules that dictate seed germination and responses to stress in plants. The enzymatic activity of many vertebrate LOXs is regulated by the presence and binding of calcium to allosteric sites. In the plant kingdom, few LOXs have been previously shown to be calcium regulated.
