Abstract 1327 Evaluating the Impact of the Glutamate Residue Mutation at α284 in Escherichia coli ATP Synthase
ATP synthesis is an essential process in cellular energy production, and understanding the function and mechanism of ATP synthase through mutational study is important. The proper functions of ATP synthase highly rely on the energy transmission among its subunits. This study evaluates how the mutations at the glutamate residue, α284 of E. coli ATP synthase, could play a role in the interactions with vicinal residues and affect ATP synthesis and hydrolysis. Site-directed mutagenesis was adopted to engineer mutants of the ATP synthase with αE284A/C/D/F/K/L/N/Q.
