Abstract 1896 Understanding DEAD-Box RNA Helicase Rok1p Regulation through Rrp5 and Metabolic Inhibitors
The RNA helicase Rok1p and its regulatory cofactor Rrp5 are essential for the folding and processing ribosomal yeast RNA (rRNA). Rok1p primarily functions to facilitate the folding of pre-rRNA intermediates. Additionally, the human homologs of Rok1p and Rrp5 (DDX52 and PDCD11) are notably upregulated in several cancer strains, highlighting the significance of understanding their interaction for therapeutic strategies to inhibit rapid cell proliferation. The Rok1p-Rrp5 cellular role in rRNA biogenesis is also important to elucidate in the context of normal and pathological metabolic changes.
