Abstract 3039 Harnessing Caspase-6 Protease Motion for Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease
Caspases are a family of apoptotic and inflammatory human cysteine proteases implicated in a variety of diseases. Specifically, increased proteolytic activity by caspase-6 is involved in several neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's Disease (AD), through the cleavage of microtubule-associated proteins tau and tubulin. Proteolysis of these structural proteins is associated with axonal degeneration and the subsequent cognitive decline, suggesting caspase-6 to be an optimal drug target for AD.
