Abstract 1607 An Efficient Thermostable Alcohol Dehydrogenase from Geobacillus Stearothermophilus for Sustainable Biofuels
Acetaldehyde production is currently reliant on non-renewable feedstocks. This study investigates an alcohol dehydrogenase mutant from Geobacillus stearothermophilus (GsADH)for its potential industrial use in the production of acetaldehyde and furfuryl alcohol from renewable, bio-based ethanol and furfural. Coupling these opposing oxidative and reductive reactions allows the recycling of the NAD+ co-substrate. GsADH is a promising candidate because of its potential for high temperature catalysis and stability.
