Abstract 2560 Understanding the Effect of Phosphorylation on Malate Dehydrogenase Activity Through Catalytic and Structural Investigation
Malate dehydrogenase (MDH) catalyzes the conversion of malate to oxaloacetate using cofactor NAD+/NADH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) in the last step of the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA). Its key role in energy metabolism has allowed the enzyme to be highly conserved throughout different organisms. Post-translational modification (PTM) is an essential regulatory process in many proteins, with its role in MDH being largely unexplored. PTM can regulate MDH's catalytic activity and influence its enzymatic interactions within the TCA cycle.
