Abstract 2484 Are the Biochemistry Textbooks Out of Date? Yes - Mitochondrial Malate Dehydrogenase is Regulated by Phosphorylation!
The human mitochondrial-isoform malate dehydrogenase (hMDH2) plays a crucial role in cellular respiration by participating in multiple metabolic pathways including the TCA Cycle, the Malate-Aspartate shuttle, Gluconeogenesis, Fatty Acid Synthesis, and Glutamine metabolism. The enzyme drives the reversible reduction-oxidation reaction of malate to oxaloacetate (OAA) and NAD+ to NADH. Additionally, MDH takes part in alternate pathways diverging from the normally functioning metabolic pathway, highlighting its versatility and adaptability.
