Abstract 2541 Understanding the Secondary Structural Changes of Malate Dehydrogenase Using Circular Dichroism
Malate dehydrogenase (MDH) is an enzyme that plays a vital role in cellular metabolism by catalyzing the NAD+-dependent reversible oxidation of malate to oxaloacetate. Eukaryotic cells have two primary MDH isoforms: cytoplasmic (MDH1) and mitochondrial (MDH2). MDH1 and MDH2 are crucial components of the malate-aspartate shuttle and the tricarboxylic acid cycle, respectively. The function of MDH1 and MDH2 is closely tied to protein conformational changes occurring prior to, during, and following binding and catalysis.
