Abstract 2335 Characterizing Cr(VI) resistance and reduction by Bacillus safensis to analyze its bioremediation potential
Contamination of soil and water by toxic heavy metals, such as chromium (Cr(VI)), is a critical environmental and health concern. One strategy for addressing this problem is bioremediation – using organisms to remove contaminants from the environment. The bacterium Bacillus safensis (B. saf) is an ideal candidate for bioremediation due to its reported resistance to heavy metals, ability to reduce Cr(VI), and plant growth–promoting properties. Some organisms can adapt their metabolisms to enhance their survival in such an environment and enable these processes.
