Abstract 1596 Defining the regulatory role of mitochondrial nucleoid proteins involved in one-carbon metabolism
Mitochondria contain their own DNA (mitochondrial DNA, mtDNA) that is required for the synthesis of ATP. The regulation of the maintenance and expression of mtDNA is not well understood. Proteins known as nucleoid proteins interact with the mitochondrial genome. We hypothesize that nucleoid proteins may serve as regulatory points for mtDNA replication and transcription. Interestingly, four previously determined mitochondrial nucleoid proteins are also part of one-carbon metabolism (MTHFD1L, SHMT2, ALDH1L2, PRDX5).
