Abstract 1244 Investigating the role of Ythdc1, an m6A RNA reader, in R-loop homeostasis and gene expression in advanced aging
Advanced age is a major risk factor for many chronic diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). AD is commonly associated with protein aggregation, but evidence suggests that alterations in RNA metabolism may play a role in promoting these age-related pathologies. Specifically, the dysregulation of the N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification pathway has been associated with aging and AD. Three-stranded nucleic acids structures containing an RNA:DNA hybrid (R-loops), are often modified by m6A mark and if dysregulated, cause transcriptional stress.
