Abstract 2000 Structure activity relationship in degradation of fluorinated phenols by plant peroxidases
There has been a substantial increase in the use of fluorinated compounds for a variety of industrial applications, resulting in their wide-spread accumulation within the environment, and a high demand for development of catalysts for degradation of these compounds. Since fluorinated compounds are not commonly produced in nature, there are few natural systems capable of degrading them. The environmental accumulation is therefore concerning, given the potential negative health effects in humans, which underscores the need for effective catalysts for degradation.
