Abstract 2346 Catalytic and structural conservation in phosducin-like proteins (PhLP3) suggest a fundamental cellular role in eukaryotes
Phosducin-like proteins (PhLPs) are small thioredoxin-related cellular proteins hypothesized to regulate cytoskeletal proteins in eukaryotes. They are highly conserved from yeast to humans and share a common overall organization with an N-terminal helix domain, a central thioredoxin domain, and a C-terminal tail domain. Notably, protozoan and mammalian PhLP3 proteins share 50% sequence identity in the thioredoxin domain. While the protein's structural organization is known, the catalytic function and mechanism of PhLPs are not well understood.
