Abstract 1450 Dual host glycan recognition by MARTX toxin drives Vibrio pathogenesis
The marine pathogen Vibrio vulnificus is a highly lethal Gram-negative bacteria that causes intestinal infections. The infection occurs via consumption of raw seafood or via open wound exposure, which progresses rapidly to septicemia with a fatality rate exceeding 50 percent. As multi-resistance strains emerge and infection incidents climb, studies elucidating the pathogenic mechanisms of V. vulnificus are increasingly important for novel therapeutic development. The primary virulence factor of V.
