Abstract 1510 The role of SHMT2 in the mitochondrial nucleoid
Mitochondria contain their own DNA (mtDNA) that carries the genetic instructions for some of the proteins required for ATP synthesis. The genetic instructions for the remaining proteins required for ATP synthesis are in the nucleus. The nuclear and mitochondrial encoded proteins must work together to produce ATP, which implies a coordination in expression between the two genomes. The objective of this research is to further understand the regulation of mtDNA transcription and maintenance through the study of proteins that interact with the mitochondrial genome.
