Abstract 1783 Investigating a Potential Feedback Loop in the Regulation of Non-canonical BAF Subunits: BICRA and BICRAL
The BRG1/BRM-Associated Factor (BAF) family of chromatin remodeling complexes play pivotal roles in regulating gene expression by repositioning nucleosomes at non-protein-coding cis-regulatory sequence elements. Recently, a non-canonical form of the BAF complex was discovered, which is referred to as non-canonical BAF (ncBAF). These ncBAF complexes are characterized by subunits that are absent from canonical forms of BAF, including the proteins BICRA and BICRAL. Loss-of-function mutations in the BICRA gene, as well as other BAF subunits, cause syndromic neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by intellectual disability and developmental delays.
