Abstract 1760 Regulation and Functional Insights into the Yeast Homolog of the Juvenile Batten Disease Protein
Juvenile Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (JNCL), the juvenile form of Batten disease, results from defects in CLN3 gene product. Symptoms typically manifest in early adolescence and progress to death by the third decade of life. The CLN3 gene is highly conserved through eukaryotes, suggesting its product plays an important role in basic cellular function. Though research suggests CLN3 protein's involvement in various processes, the function is still unknown. The current study aims to better understand the role of CLN3 in the cell by evaluating the expression and regulation of the yeast homolog BTN1.
