Abstract 1056 Towards Heterologous Expression of PUFA Biosynthetic Gene, Δ6-Desaturase in Soybean for the PUFA Production-a novel finding
The increasing demand for polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) has caused significant interest in their production strategies. Heterologous expression of PUFA biosynthetic genes offers a promising avenue for enhancing the production that leads to many health benefits in human and addressing dietary deficiencies. Marine microalgae are the richest source of PUFAs, known for their extensive PUFA biosynthetic pathway where many genes like desaturase and elongase are involved. Oilseed crops natively lack these genes and hence they are not synthesized in them.
