Abstract 2327 Novel glycan-coated lipid membrane models
The glycocalyx serves as a structural barrier that protects cell integrity and plays a crucial role in mediating signal transduction, although the understanding of its function remains poorly understood due to the lack of suitable model systems to perform biophysical investigations. To address this, we describe here the engineering of lipid bilayers asymmetrically functionalized at the outer surface with chondroitin sulfate (CS), a major glycocalyx component. CS conjugation was performed using a maleimide-modified phospholipid and thiol-modified CS.
