Abstract 2399 O-GlcNAcylation regulates placental hormone production
The placenta is a temporary organ that supports fetal growth by altering maternal metabolism. Throughout a healthy pregnancy, hormones secreted by the placenta enter maternal circulation and shift metabolism towards a state of physiological insulin resistance. This naturally results in an increased supply of glucose available to cross the placenta and encourage fetal growth. Thus, regulation of placental hormones must remain tightly controlled to maintain pregnancy and ensure the health of both mother and fetus.
