Abstract 2445 Regulation of the Mitochondrial Pyruvate Carrier by the Wnt/β-catenin pathway rewires mitochondrial metabolism in liver cancer cells
The function of mitochondria has largely been considered in the context of their ability to generate ATP; however, mitochondria play equally important roles in other aspects of cellular metabolism and signaling which in turn control cell fate and behavior. Such behaviors, including growth, proliferation, apoptosis, and migration, are impacted by the available fuels and how they are metabolized by the mitochondria. The mitochondrial pyruvate carrier (MPC, comprised of the MPC1 and MPC2 proteins) is a transmembrane protein complex that resides in the inner mitochondrial membrane and facilitates the entry of pyruvate, which feeds the TCA cycle.
